Traditional Thai Massage (Thai “nuad boran“) is a unique fusion of Hatha Yoga positions and the stimulation of particular energy lines and pressure points. The massage can be used for general relaxation as well as for prevention of various health disorders.
In contrast to the classic form of massage, Traditional Thai Massage is performed on a mat on the floor; both client and practitioner are dressed in comfortable clothing allowing ease of movement and flexibility. No oils or creams are used because it wouldn’t allow the practitioner the required grip. During the massage the practitioner guides the recipient through a series of yoga postures while treating the customer with thumbs, palms, elbows, knees or feet.
Relying on the body's energy lines (the so called “Sen” - similar to the meridians in Traditional Chinese Medicine) the treatment is a specified combination of different sequences. A complete massage of the energy lines takes between one to three hours, while the common length for a good massage is generally 1.5 hours. The Traditional Thai Massage based on the teachings of Wat Po always starts at the feet to activate circulation and to re-balance the “four elements”.
